About Claire

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BCACC, trained in EMDR, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. My degree in English Literature provides purchase for empathy and fascination of the human condition. The Education degree determines my intent to encourage curiosity and instill empowerment. The Masters degree in Counselling Psychology allows me to put into practice all that I’ve lived and learned. Transformation, evolution; change. Hope.

I returned to school when I was forty-two, completing my grade twelve equivalency and going on to Langara College for a two-year transfer program out to UBC. While working towards my undergrad then post grad degrees, I worked as a lifeguard for the Vancouver Outdoor Pools and Beaches spending most of my time at Kitsilano Beach. I taught Lifeguard School for the City of Vancouver for over a decade and for the Vancouver Lifeguard Association’s (VLA) Beach Alert Junior Lifeguard Camps. I served in many capacities for the VLA including president. After lifeguarding and competing, I retired after twenty-one years. I began my counselling practice almost ten years ago while working as a counsellor at two inner city elementary schools in Surrey BC.

For me there is no judgement. The Rogerian consideration of ‘unconditional positive regard’ serves as the foundation of my work.
